Day One Upon your arrival at your Newport, Rhode Island area hotel, the group will…
Come explore, Montreal, the largest French-speaking city after Paris. Montreal is a modern cosmopolitan, cultural city with a rich architectural history. Your visit will include the Montreal Bio-Dome, the Incline, Old Montreal, Notre Dame as well as Mount Royale. Don’t miss this outstanding opportunity.
Day One
This afternoon we visit the Incline Tower in Montreal. Getting to the top of the tower is half the fun! Guests ride a one-of-a-kind funicular that ascends the exterior of the tower, so the view begins from the time you enter the vehicle until you once again arrive safely at the station. According to published statistics, during peak tourist season, the funicular – which travels 2.8 meters per second (about 6 miles per hour) – makes approximately a hundred return trips each day along 266 meters (872 feet) of rail. Remarkably, each ascension takes less than 2 minutes. The funicular has 2 levels and can carry 76 passengers at a time. Given time to load and unload, that means more than 500 people can ride each hour. Furthermore, this is the only funicular that works on a curved structure, allowing the vehicle to stay upright despite the incline. Next we visit the Bio Dome -The Biodôme houses over 4,500 animals from 250 different species and 500 plant species. Its thousands of terrestrial and aquatic plants and animals make it a veritable “laboratory,” allowing researchers to study the inter-relations between organisms and the physical factors in their environments, and between organisms themselves. Next we check into our hotel for the next two evenings. Tonight, enjoy dinner at La Cage aux Sports followed by an evening movie at the IMAX Theater at the Montreal Science Center. (D)
Day Two
Following breakfast, we meet our local guide for a tour of the city. This overview tour will last three hours and point out the many highlights of the city. Enjoy visits to the Olympic Complex, Old Montreal, Mount Royal Park, St. Joseph’s Oratory, the harbor and much more. Following our tour we visit the Old Port area where you can have lunch on your own. This afternoon we visit the Montreal Science Center which features many interactive permanent exhibits and rotating exhibits. Explore the center at your leisure or enjoy a planned educational activity. Dinner is included this evening at a Montreal Sugar Shack before returning to the hotel for the evening. (B,D)
Day Three
After breakfast, we travel to the Montreal Underground for a walking tour of this unique part of the city.
Known amongst our team as “Tale of Two Cities”, this walking tour has become notorious as a great introduction to the heart of downtown and the world-famous Underground City! Approximately 500,000 people circulate daily on this network, where some 2,000 shops and restaurants, major hotels, museums, theaters and universities can be found. Explore Montreal’s downtown core in a way that is exclusively offered by Gray Line Montreal. On this tour you’ll see some of downtown Montreal’s key sights, including must-see cultural and historical landmarks. Lunch is on your own in the underground before departing Montreal for your journey home. (B)
